With the help of her singing rabbit puppet Petunia, Darci Lynne Farmer, a 12-year-old ventriloquist from the Oklahoma City area, wowed the judges and studio audience on Tuesday's season premiere of "America's Got Talent."
For her audition, Darci and her bunny buddy crooned an incredible rendition of George Gershwin's "Summertime" from "Porgy and Bess." Not only did she control the puppet with skill and charm to spare, but the girl also managed to sing beautifully through clenched teeth.
The performance earned a standing ovation from the crowd and the judges. All the judges raved about the performance, and even the curmudgeonly Simon Cowell rose to his feet clapping and smiling, deeming the performance memorable.
"I’m gonna remember you in a week, in a month, in a year. You’re both brilliant and when you’ve got it, you’ve got it,” Cowell said.
But it was Spice Girl Mel B. who was so impressed with Darci's performance that she slapped her Golden Buzzer, sending the stunned girl straight to the live shows.
