**NOTE that this is the type that DON'T work their tails off to learn the language, but we all know there's a grain of truth.**

I feel sort of shy to admit this because I don't want to offend anyone and make them think this means I have some sort of problem with Japanese people or I'm not respectful toward the culture. All I am saying in this video is that I feel like this long Japanese culture interest saga is finally coming to a close.

It's been a long time coming, to be honest. I've found other interests that have sort of taken over. That, and I'm moving for college here in a few months and I need to think about my real life. I no longer intend to minor in Japanese because I want to specialize in something that's related to my major. I feel like six Japanese classes is a VERY good run and I've had a great time learning the language and sensee is awesome. :o)

Lol it was certainly a stage of growing up for some of us. :-) I had a great amount of fun while this hobby lasted but I'm now very much consumed by music. I do have a Japanese friend that I see at school that keeps me in touch with that lifelong love for the culture.

I'm not learning Japanese. I'm learning another language, for practical terms there's basically no point. Scandinavians almost all speak English really well. I knew this though. There doesn't have to be a point. It might pop up as a life skill at some point but it's always been for fun, a hobby, a time killer, general interest for me. Maybe you'll come back and forth to it over the future. Sure you aren't just burnt out a bit?

I just feel it would be a shame to give up on something you've invested so much time on; maybe it's just because I like the language so much :D If you don't enjoy anime/manga/whatever, then don't bother with them, keep on with the textbooks (albeit without a teacher). You could always come back to Japanese some other time rather than discard it completely but... ah, I'm not convincing you to change your mind, am I? :P Good luck with whatever you choose to do anyway, Japanese or not :)

Hey, I had no interest whatsoever in Japan before I started; no manga, no anime (besides some DBZ/Yu-Gi-Oh!/Pokémon when I was younger), no J-Pop, no culture, no nuthin' :P You're uncommon, but not quite a "special circumstance" ;) I just know so many J-Learners that *are* obsessed with those things, so suggesting manga was only natural. I don't personally mix it up much (since I'm ok for the moment), but for someone who's burned out, I thought it might be useful advice.

But not too much of a special circumstance, I mean I cosplayed for God's sake but I never really watched too much anime (well, I did in middle school so I had enough knowledge to act like I did).. I just loved costuming and the friendly people at the cons. I felt like a social outcast back then (I really wasn't, a lot of it was in my head) but now that I've gotten more confidence in my looks/personality I don't feel a need to cosplay anymore to distract myself from real life.

I'm not saying this is not excellent advice, I'd recommend anyone that's taking language classes to try to immerse themselves as much as possible, but I learned Japanese straight from the books and didn't really pay attention to much of the media or anime. I guess I'm a special circumstance to the mainstream Japanese language students that were initially pushed by anime, music, the media, etc...

I did extremely well in the class setting because of my incredible determination to learn back when I was heavily influenced here on youtube by user Mririan (Magibon). I wanted to be like her because I thought she was so beautiful and talented, she really took Japanese culture and reflected it well. I honestly think I was more interested in Magibon then I was anime or any of that. I haven't read a manga in over a year. I went to anime expos because I love to dress up... cont...

I thought a lot about it. This entire last quarter I took Japanese my interest was barely hanging on by a thread (which made it very hard to focus and study, but I pulled another 4.0). I just feel like that time on my life is over. It's been awhile since I've made this video but the point still stands, I haven't missed it. Romanian culture? Interesting...

Romania? Really? That's a bit unusual. I've been there. Crazy place, but cool language.

Also, I got to this video from the related section of a video on Steve Kaufman's channel titled "Language learning burnout", about what to do when you feel you can't be bothered continuing (in a nutshell: keep it varied). Might be worth a watch, as it'd be a shame to practically throw away all that hard work you put into the language before :) お互いに、頑張りましょうね ^ー^

Why does it matter if you don't want to travel to Japan any more? Just learn the language "for fun" as a hobby :D That's what I'm doing, and I find studying on your own outside of a class you get so much more done, and you can do things to learn that interest you, like watch TV, read the news/manga/whatever, listen to the radio, etc. Classes can really limit you, I feel; they're too rigid at times, and you have to focus on what the teacher feels is important, not what YOU feel is important :)

No problem, you're one of my best friends here on youtube why wouldn't I mention you! :D

She's not a weaboo. She is putting other things in her life in perspective. She has come to the conclusion that this obsession with people shoveling anything Asian oriented down their throats even if it has no redeeming qualities for a future is not going to benefit her in the long run. Sure it's interesting to study another culture and it's fun, but she has other interests too. Just my two cents:)

Giving up? I took Japanese for two years, this is my last quarter of a six part series (as high as they go at the community college level). I'm by no means "giving up," more putting it aside for something else.

I'm a great believer in setting goals and making plans, but never hold yourself to them. The point is not the destination, it's having a direction to go in. I'll stay subscribed and hope you keep going on paths of things you want to do. And life has a funny way of bringing convergence in things later on if you're open to them. Best of luck. Peace

I dropped out of Japanese in college. And I struggled the same way - my grades fell because I failed to see a connection of usefulness with it. Around that time, I got a job in a Japanese souvenir shop, and saved up to travel here, and being here is what got my interest going again. But that was just me - when you are further away and more removed, it's much harder. I majored in Spanish and nearly ended up in South American instead. Go with the flow - always better to go where your heart is

Emily this saddens me. I am a "wannabee" about Romanian culture what you were to Japanese culture. Stop and think. Don't give up on Japan just yet... Wait... Stop and think.

Nope, I'm done with it. I've gotten really into music and lots of other things. I probably seem sad in this video because it's morning and I'm a little sleepy and clumsy with my words haha

Im sorry but...I hadn't watched any of your other videos and I found you through a bento search. (I dont even like Japanese things anymore, Ever since I watched "You're Beautiful" I've been hooked on Jang Geun-Suk and Korea, I suggest searching that show on Viki(Dot)com highly!) Good luck with your Korean friend, even actors, cant speak english too well, they know how to carry on casual converstations. It just shows that we are all the same, those who work harder learn faster!
