Honestly there were a few bad calls by the Ref and ended up giving Naomi two points which let her win. This is also right after Serena had her baby and they made her climb the ranks again to get back to her #1 spot. So there were some politics happening for sure. But you’re right this was still a major moment for Naomi and they shouldn’t have bood

Re-watching this knowing of her depression really makes you see how disgusting this entire situation actually was. How this crowd and the officials acted towards her was awful. You should never diminish a player's accomplishments - and that's exactly what they did here. I can't believe this happened to her and wish I could give her a huge hug. This is the saddest thing I've ever seen

As an athlete and being one of the greats at anything you have to be mentally prepared for that . I don’t have sympathy for her because every great athlete play against tough fans and tough competitors . If she can’t take the heat then get out the kitchen . Serena and Venus Williams dad would gather up hundreds of kids in the neighborhood to stand around Venus and Serena playing tennis and scream insults and say the worst things possible to them . He mentally prepared them , Serena gets booed and played in front of some of the toughest crowds overseas that you can imagine . She said if Dad wasn’t mentally preparing for that as a kid she wouldn’t be were she is today . Sure it’s sucks , but that comes with any sport . Do you not know what black athletes adored when their were still prejudice in sports . Jackie Robinson literally got rocks thrown at him while playing baseball , Michael Jordan etc . Naomi stepped on a pedestal that maybe is not fit for her , that’s why she quit

I am not joking, I wailed when she said, "I have to defer from your question.." and further apologized for winning. It was with that, "I am sorry", that I shredded my last hope for humanity. Everyone, everywhere should praise young athletes when they take on and defeat established champions. It gives you hope in the future of that sport you love so much. Especially, doing it at such a young age, and after playing fewer of these slams. Shame on you fans, who booed this darl.

What a humble&sweet person Naomi is!! She's my new favorite athlete now! Bless her heart. Naomi has earned this. This was the result of her hard work&dedication! It was totally fair!..why the booing? Good job Serena, on taking up for her too! She showed great sportsmanship on her part! And SHAME on the ones in the audience for booing during this moment! You should be ashamed of yourselves for reacting this way! Be happy for Naomi. I can't believe her moment was ruined by the callous audience! Wow..that was upsetting to watch! Keep that chin up Naomi! Don't let them beat you down!!!!💪🏼

This is so embarrassing how some Americans behave. After watching this I can understand why Naomi suffers from depression after this match. She couldn’t even enjoy winning the tournament. Almost feeling guilty for winning. People booing her should be ashamed of themselves. Poor sportsmanship. Naomi hold your head up high and don’t let others ruin your parade. You are AWESOME! ❤️❤️❤️

Naomi , as an athlete who played sports since I was 3 years old , you have to be confident to be one of the greatest . Professional sports and performing in front of large crowds comes with it . I understand everyone is saying she has anxiety , depression etc , so maybe professional sports is not for her , and that’s okay . People should do what makes them happy , and no matter how much money she is receiving from being a great athlete doesnt matter to her . That’s a testament to anything one do in life . When their was still prejudice in sports , black athletes got spit on , thrown rocks at , insulted . They kept fighting and the fight was worth it to them .Jackie Robinson , Michael Jordan , the list goes on . Serena and Venus dad would gather up all the kids in the neighborhood when to yell and say the worst insults to Serena and Venus while they use to practice as kids . He mentally prepared them for what can occur , and you bet it did ! Serena is a champion and more importantly a very strong athlete who’s been through it all . Her childhood upbringings was something most of us can’t even imagine going through , not knowing when was our next meal . Everything she’s been through is why she stands so strong but people should stop letting “ anxiety control their life . Instead of simply saying you have anxiety as a coping mechanisms to be shy, anxious or timid , how about overcoming it ! It’s all mental tbh

Naomi says She’s been having a depression since 2018. This trauma made her depressed as a beginning. She’s very pure, kind, also very sensitive. I hope I can see her smiling in a tournament again.

And she is Japanese all the time.

Imagine being 20 and winning your first Grand Slam against your idol, and the crowd seems to hate you for it. I can totally see how that would damage someone, especially world-class athletes who are already having to deal with the high levels of pressure their sport demands.

Naomi looked absolutely miserable. That crowd should be ashamed of themselves. Her whole moment was ruined. Her dream was tainted by all of this crap & I just want to hug her. Good for Naomi for having class, but there was no reason to apologize. She is a beautiful soul and deserves to enjoy such a great accomplishment.

In Africa - like it or not, Naomi certainly masters deep African culture - it is common for a younger person to apologize to an elder or for "hurting" an older person even if the latter is wrong. Not sure if Japanese people have that "tradition" too.

I’ve just come here after Naomi has pulled out from the French open due to bouts of depression she’s suffered from this incident. This is truly heartbreaking and makes me wonder even more who the crowd thinks they are. I’ve never witnessed anything so disrespectful in my life. I come from Melbourne where the Aus open is held and I have NEVER witnessed the Australian crowd boo a winner who was so clearly upset. No class, no grace and no sensitivity has been demonstrated by America here. I cried so much in this video, how cruel

It was there I shredded my last hope for humanity. Everyone, everywhere should praise young athletes when they take on and defeat established champions. It gives you hope in the future of that sport you love so much. Especially, doing it at such a young age, and after playing fewer of these slams.

Heartbreaking to watch. President of USTA Katrina Adams says, perhaps not the out come we were looking for today. How does the President USTA say that out loud. I admire Serena for her play on the court, I admire her more for what she said. Naomi shouldn't feel a need to apologize for beating her opponent, regardless of who she beat. Just a bad day for tennis.

No YOUR attitude of excusing one injustice and yet being so offended by another is the attitude "you can't have". We don't know that Naomi is suffering "the most". Maybe she agrees that the umpire should have been challenged. She seems like a sweet young lady who was upset by the moment but so was Serena and deservedly so. This umpire was acting like police officers who kill, beat and jail folks because they dared to say something they don't like. He took a game away from her because she called him a thief? This isn't Russia...yet. We still have the right to express ourselves. He's not god and the word thief is not profanity. He had no right to do what he did and ALL people concerned about fairness should take a stand ....not just Serena.
Dee
Dee Hace 4 años
Prettyboricuaec.... Maybe. But then wait till you're ready. Her behaviour was unacceptable. And post partum depression cannot allow an umpire to be more lenient. Another player may be going through a divorce, does that mean he / she can throw a tantrum? Once you step on to the court, the same rules apply to all.
