I thought a missed field goal turns the ball over to the other team?

Oh that one sorry! Maryland's coach called a timeout RIGHT before BC kicked it so it negated the kick. They only went through with the first kick because they didn't hear it. The second kick was basically a do-over from the first one.

@Nicholas Austin Thanks, but I was talking about the field goal at the end of the game. BC takes the field goal, misses it, and then gets to attempt it again. I thought the first missed field goal would turn possession over to Maryland.

It was an extra point. A blocked extra point can be returned for two points. The kicking team then gets the ball on the next possession.

Give Andre Williams the Heisman! Forget the quarterbacks

This is why I don't like icing the kicker. Basically you could just end up giving them a second chance. Which is exactly what happened here.
