Hi besties! We wanted to let you know that we WILL be reacting to the 4 songs Taylor announced today (of course), and also, our reaction to Endless Summer Vacation by Miley is filmed and will be coming soon… however it may be slightly delayed now cause editing our Taylor reaction simply MUST TAKE PRIORITY! 😍‼️
She also pays tribute to her uncle who taught her to play the guitar, David Grant who died in July of 2016 while climbing the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
another important note about this track: lana's uncle, david grant, died in 2016 while climbing the rocky mountains. i believe she is paying him tribute by singing about rocky mountain high
Possibly but Lana directly references, "Rocky Mountain High" by John Denver. It's a classic & very well known by all of us living in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. She said I'm doing this, "like John Denver sings," and they quoted the song and its reference which is, "And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun And he lost a friend but kept the memory..." Lana says she's doing what John Denver sings. I'm sure she thinks of her uncle as well but what she referenced directly was the lyric.
i love how she sings "remember that too for me" on 'the Grants' and then it followed by "Don't forget me" in 'Did you know that there's a tunnel under ocean blvd' and both songs explore themes of leaving and death (as a human, as an artist) but in such different ways. I just love that these two songs open the album. Also about the singers, she told in an interview: "I would talk about wanting a little bit of a spiritual element and we talked about working with Melodye [Perry] and Pattie [Howard] and a couple of women who had toured with Whitney Houston, which was just unfathomable to me that I could be in the same room with them."
This song really feels like a goodbye to me. Potentially, even in the sense of death, almost as if it’s sort of her legacy and would be played at her funeral or something. Especially because it’s “when you leave all you take is your memories” like when you leave this earth. I know that is very dark, but Lana does tend to have some of the most vulnerable, dark and deep lyrics of anyone. I haven’t stopped listening to this song since it came out.
The beginning is symbolic. It really represents her past and her families past. The mistake the gospel singer made and how when she corrected it, it was beautiful.
I think "Did you know there is a tunnel under Ocean Blvd" will be Lana most deep and emotional album. Like those songs you love and connect with but you don't listen to them often, 'cause they are too soul-shaking and emotionally overwhelming. DYKTATUOB, A&W and now The Grants demonstrate that this album is the final and concrete project of her two previous albums, which they were more intimate, talking about family and the simply life of the countryside... I am honestly so happy for this album and for Lana; I'm going to listen to it slowly and carefully, taking my time to absorb every note and lyric.
The background vocals are also some of the same singers from her song Thunder on Blue Banisters, so it even feels like a natural progression from that album! I love the gospel inspiration and the message to her family, also the way it fades into the title track>>>
ive never been so SHOOK by a song intro before. sounded nothing like any lana song, i doublechecked if i clicked right lmao. this song is another masterpiece for this album
The way she said she will take the beautiful memories of her family with her in this song, AND asking them to do the same in the following song (to ask them not to forget her) is ILLEGALLY SUPERIOR
Truly have no words for this song. I have been listening non stop. It really hits a deep spot- makes you think about death and life in a really beautiful way. She truly outdid herself here🥲🥲🥲
the way she says "remember that for me" to future generations of the grants, like remember lana the same way she remembers her grandma's smile, and in "did you know there's a tunnel under sunset blvd" she sings "don't forget me". she ties everything together
I'm so exited for this album!!! Also have yall fathomed that were getting new Taylor's versions and a new song tonight from Taylor??? Omg she's actually So Concerning 😭 I'm still processing midnights
Thank you for this 💅this song really validates my emotions regarding my grandfather's death 12 years ago approximately, my grandmother's death 2 years ago 😭
The fact that the next track on the album is Ocean Blvd. where she is almost begging to not be forgotten when she’s gone after this track is about the things that she will remember when she’s gone
The thing that nobody is mentioning and that I love is that in her last song, she talks about her sister's child, and then in the first song of this album she talks about it too. I feel like these two albums will have a lots of connection
Lanas music makes me feel free and alive. That’s something that I don’t have experience in other artist. She is very special. Her voice makes me safe and calm.
she's UNPACKING THE TRAUMA she's just like me tryna break the generational trauma also, Lana also said she is ready to get married and have children so she's thinking about that tooo and that links into the song how she wants to also have a child and do the same for the family
I have been checking back basically hourly to see if you posted your reaction! This song is so GEORGEOUS!!!! I couldn't wait to see you two experience it. The way Lana can change it up and write the most beautiful music that perfectly fits such a beautiful meaning. We do not deserve this, but SO thankful for it
I always love your all’s genuine reactions along with taking the time and effort to actually dig deep and analyze songs, it always gets me so hyped up 😂❤ I really think this album is gonna be one of her best!!!
this is OVERWHELMING !!! also just wanted to say thank you for your videos, i don't have a lot of friends who listen to the same artists as me so i usually fathom the songs on my own, but you both make it less lonely!
gals, you're making my weekend easier. I'm stressed because i haven't sewn yet 4 bridesmaids dresses and the wedding is on Sunday. I'm counting on the album release to have a cry party because I am so stressed 😢😊
I’m so glad that you guys have started reacting to Lana’s songs regularly now. Have you only discovered her recently?? I’m so excited to see your reaction to the full album!!!
Loveee your analysis of the song! Please react to “preacher’s daughter” by Ethel Cain! It’s a concept album with a crazy story, amazing writing and offensive sounds! So good
You can't imagine how long I've been waiting for this reaction because you always break down the songs and I really love that, good reaction as always, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE ALBUM, I'm so excited😭
The singers in the beginning were actually Whitney Houston’s background singers 🤍✨ she paid tribute to her in Get Free. There’s so many beautiful layers to this song.
